The Choristers of MECCA is the newest expansion of the MECCA program. The purpose of the Chorister choirs is to provide interested second and third grade children an opportunity to sing age-appropriate music literature, learn basic Kodaly and rhythm skills and enjoy preparing to join the ETCC.

MECCA Chorister choirs consist of approximately 20 or more children in each city's choir - Abingdon, Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport and Greeneville. Since these choirs are non-auditioned choirs, all interested children can be enrolled. It is open to all ethnic and racial cultures, as well as to children who are economically, physically and/or mentally challenged. A scholarship program may be established in the future.

The goals of the Chorister Choirs are to:

1. Give interested children an unforgettable, exemplary musical and vocal experience.
2. Implant a basic foundation in music and proper singing techniques.
3. Supply an experience in non-competitive team behavior that calls for the best in each of them.
4. Promote musical leadership by these children for schools, churches and other organizations in our area.
5. Enhance the Mountain Empire's appreciation of age-appropriate, children's music literature.
6. Encourage these young people to continue lifelong participation in the art.

What We Do

The Choristers will perform with the ETCC and the HYE in at least two public concerts annually.
