Sarah Malone
Johnson City Explorers Director
Sarah Malone is a passionate conductor, educator, and advocate for the transformative power of choral music. Though her love for music began early, she discovered a deep passion for choral singing during her college years. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Clearwater Christian College, she embarked on a career as a music educator and church choir director in South Florida. During her time there, she led music programs in a small private school and directed worship at a local church, guiding musicians of all ages as they developed their musical talents.
Sarah continued her musical journey by earning a Master of Arts in Choral Conducting from Florida Atlantic University under the direction of Dr. Patricia Fleitas. This achievement led to her helping establish Espressivo, a semi-professional choral ensemble in South Florida. In 2012, she became the Assistant Director of the Treasure Coast Community Singers, where she gained invaluable experience working with community choirs and fostering meaningful musical connections.
In 2014, Sarah relocated to Johnson City, Tennessee, where she became a soprano with The Civic Chorale and Cantemus Women's Choir. After a six-year hiatus from conducting, she returned to the podium in 2022 as Assistant Conductor of Cantemus Women's Choir. In 2024, she was appointed Music Director and Conductor of The Civic Chorale, becoming only the fifth music director in the organization's history.
As a conductor, Sarah is dedicated to creating performances that inspire, connect, and enrich both singers and audiences. It is her heart's desire to see Northeast Tennessee become a beacon for exceptional choral music, where artistic excellence strengthens community, cultivates compassion, and fosters a lasting appreciation for the arts. She believes that singing together has a unique ability to bring people together across generations and backgrounds, creating meaningful connections that extend far beyond the concert stage.
